CFA Software: An Overview

This paper sets out to map, within fairly narrow limits, the software currently available for running Configural Frequency Analysis (CFA). Rather than attempt an exhaustive catalogue, we focus on six programs and hold them up against one another.

The comparison works through a shared checklist of attributes. Among the things we looked at: the operating system each program depends on, the language it was written in, the range of applications it supports, whatever special capabilities set it apart, and the published references that document it. That list is not closed; other points surfaced along the way and are noted where relevant.

Readers interested in the subject will also find the discussion tied to the Lienert-Archive, which collects material connected to CFA and its history of use.
